The true "left" - the working class - has always understood that immigration is a tool of capital. It creates a surplus of workers to suppress wages and working conditions, and also creates "new markets" and "competition" for available commodities and consumables, meaning higher prices and profits.
Mamdani a communist? Not likely. Has the City of New York taken ownership of all businesses and aspects of "state" functions in New York? The real communists are on Wall Street - the financial sector.
