Fuady - a half truth is still a lie. Further, it’s bullshit to try and associate better child health based on a single vaccine when WE HAVE UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE IN THE EU. Let me repeat this. WE HAVE UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE IN THE EU. Our children are healthier because we HAVE UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE.

And until Bobby and the entire MAHA movement start talking universal healthcare, anything else they have to say about making America healthy is crap.

Expand full comment
terry jeanne's avatar

NOPE.

We don't have to stoop to that BS, like you.

Much less your illogical and unsupported argument for it.

Slightly Lucid's avatar

Stoop to universal healthcare? Are you demented?

Europeans aren’t healthier than Americans because we drink red wine, or because the vaccine schedule does or does not include chicken pox.

Europe is healthier because we have high quality universal health care.

Expand full comment
Is It Funny Yet?'s avatar

Golly you're totally right, my super smart European better. It has nothing to do with the fact that Europe isn't front-loading poisons into the food stuffs kids eat regularly. It has nothing to do with better diet and less processed foods. It has nothing to do with wider acceptance of natural remedies and health alternatives in Europe than in the United States. Or anything else RFK Jr is directing his department to look into. Everything is just due to the magic of Universal Healthcare! Nothing else! Gosh, I'm surprised we don't pay you to come to the U.S. and run the HHS and the NIH for us. The answer is all so simple-and you're the one with the key!

Expand full comment
Slightly Lucid's avatar

They front load shit into food in the UK; their kids are still healthier than US kids.

And yes, tighter restrictions on dyes, additives, hormones are important, no doubt. And healthy school lunches that every kid gets, that matters. Lower stress levels (because no one is worried about medical bankruptcy or how they are gonna pay for university) matters a lot.

But at the end of the day, it’s the HEALTHCARE.

I am an American, by the way. In the states I had the best insurance money could buy. And still waited weeks to see my doctor. I had my baby at one of the top ranked hospitals in the states, and they nearly killed us both - and the bill was more than 100,000 dollars.

I had not one, but two pediatricians quit because under insurance managed care systems, they felt like they couldn’t really care for their patients.

I live in the EU now. If I get ill, my doctor sees me immediately. If she has a worry, I am immediately sent for tests. Mammograms, colonoscopies, Pap smears, etc are scheduled by the country on a regular basis. Because healthcare is universal, people use it rather than delaying care. This means issues are caught EARLY, before they are catastrophic.

This is why Europe enjoys longer, healthier lives; the health care system is focused o. KEEPING people healthy, rather than raking in dough on letting people get as sick as possible before curing them. The American healthcare system runs on a perverse incentive. Prevention or early treatment of cancer, diabetes, etc is less profitable than treating people who are desperate and dying. And if you would think about that for 2 seconds, you would know I’m right.

Expand full comment
terry jeanne's avatar

You must be the "demented" one (as you surely will be too soon) if you think the "perverse incentive" will be in anyway eliminated with your blissful view of what "universal healthcare" will do in the US.

There is overwhelming evidence, to use just one of your rose-glass N of 1 scientific references, that cancer screenings do NOTHING to extend life yet enrich those who promote them and defraud the taxpayers.

Of course you would certainly be "right" if diabetes needed much else than real food for "early treatment" Mrs. Bloviated.

No one, ever, has said it is a "single vaccine". Most babies go through the horror of severe regression and illness after multiples, like MMR.

Get your "crap" facts straight and why don't you renounce USA citizenship while your busy sucking up EU taxdollars? We don't need you here, that is for sure.

Expand full comment
Slightly Lucid's avatar

The 'single vaccine' is the chicken pox vaccine, Terry Jeanne.

Being a hugely responsible parent, we spread the vaccine schedule.

You know why in the US you DON'T do that?

Because it's not 'cost effective.'

In the EU (with our 'socialized medicine') it doesn't need to be 'cost effective' because health care is not a profit center. SO - babies can go for MULTIPLE visits and spread the vax schedule over time so that they don't need to receive 10 different vaccines in one go and suffer the 'horrors' of 'severe regression.'

When health care is not for profit, and doctors don't have to obey insurance companies, then they get to do what is right for the patient.

And do you know that Americans living abroad get to pay US and European taxes? And you really don't fucking know the fuck you are talking about?

PS - the US also charges an 'exit tax' for folks who want to renounce their US citizenship.

Why are you changing the subject, and alleging things I never said?

I said EU citizens are healthier because we get regular medical care. Vaccine schedules are spread out because we have universal health care.

The way vaccines work in the US is an abomination because the health care system is a profit center, rather than a universal service. Some vaccines ARE safe and effective. Other's haven't been properly tested or (like chicken pox vaccines) are completely unnecessary.

And the reason there are 72 vaccines are because the health care industry and big pharma own your congresspeople.

No - I said that Bobby lied about, or at least misrepresented, the science of the Chicken Pox vaccine. There were no 'pre-clinical trials' showing that the Chicken Pox vaccine increased the risk of shingles in adult hood. That's not TRUE. People were whining that the reason kids in the EU are healthier is because of fewer vaccines. And that is also simply not the reason kids are healthier: kids are healthier because we have universal health care. Universal health care is the reason vaccine schedules are spread, and fewer vaccines given - because heath care isn't a 'business' out to make money.

You never, not once, asked about how I felt about vaccines. You made an enormous assumption; I believe some vaccines are on the whole a benefit to mankind and a miracle. There are diseases that killed children and adults and wiped out families that are now pretty much wiped out. No one in the first world gets diphtheria and small pox any longer; little kids living out their lives in iron lungs is largely a thing of the past. Kids don't die of whooping cough anymore. This is largely wonderful.

But over vaccination isn't cool. My kid was vaccinated for the very basics under the law; MMR, Whooping cough, polio, diphtheria etc. My pediatrician was very good (and left practice because her service was taken over by a major health care organisation) - and spread the vaccines over time, didn't insist or even recommend others - and always numbed his leg with rosemary oil so it didn't hurt.

So, yeah - THAT's how I feel about vaccines.Being forced to take the COVID vaccine was one of the things that made me angrier than I can ever remember being, knowing that an experimental drug was being forced on a population without any choice at all, given to people who were not at high risk, and where older fashioned safer vaccines were deliberately held off the market place because they couldn't be patented.

So see, if you'd asked, you'd have found my views are pretty nuanced. And I stand by my opinion that Bobby is a nutjob, and that as long as the US refuses Universal health care even his best intentions are nothing more than a grift.
