Southern Whigs became more pro slavery than southern Democrats, while northern Whigs became more anti slavery than northern Democrats. Consequently their divisions could not bridged. RFK jr. and Gabbard are hardly democrats. RFK jr’s opposition to vaccines may not repel MAGA faithful but it’s anathema to anyone following the science. He is an absurd choice to lead HSS.
