My father used to tell a story of his good friend who, many years ago, coralled a herd of runaway horses off a busy local road back into thier paddock following some cretin having opened the gate. While noone was hurt, a driver sued him for endangering passing cars, and was successful due to the law saying the man was responsible for the horses, because he was in 'possession' of them, even though he did not own them. After years long defending himself, his health and marriage had sufferred, and he had used up most of his savings, and was on the brink of losing his home and all remaining assets and savings to pay supposed damages. So, at his wits end...he contacted the other side's lawyer and told him this. "I am good friends with (a local well known bikey gang), and I'm about to lose my life, and I have nothing left to lose. If that happens, you will not know what hit you, and will be in hospital for so long, that if you survive at all, you will not remember me." The next day, after years of time, money, worry and stress, dad's friend was advised that the case was suddenly dropped. Completely gone, as if it had never been.

Quite incredible that so much in life relies simply on the stroke of a pen, and how outcomes can be radically altered simply by changing who will feel the consequences of an action. The Canadians, and all the people everywhere should take this story to heart, and never let moral corruption be divorced from consequences.
