I was already heavy into fitness as a teenager in the mid 1960s. I read from the sources I trusted way back then to not worry about salt, the body excretes excess unless you have an unusual condition, eggs are the most perfect food, dietary cholesterol has minimal impact on blood cholesterol, eat butter not margarine. All facts shown by real science by the 60s. I'm glad I learned early to spot how badly the "experts" lie, and they are not about real science at all. I was immune to the COVID bs thank God.
I had a slightly different problem when I nearly collapsed at home and my wife rushed me to the ER. I started to feel better fairly quickly as they were running me through all kinds of tests but found nothing wrong. I am sure it was just the salinated water they injected as soon as I arrived. The prior month I had cut my coffee consumption in half but failed to drink water to replace it.
Whether it was low sodium or low water, I didn’t know and neither did they as they told me they found nothing and sent me home. On returning home, I thought about it and figured it out myself!
I’ve always said, “if salt is so bad, why, when you’re rushed to the hospital, do they pump you full of saline and at the hospital give you even more saline?”, kinda says it all, right?
We live in a sea of lies. Which is nothing new. We need more honest institutions, but I have no respect for those who say we must restore trust in institutions. They should never be trusted. Institutions inevitably end up lying for very obvious reasons.
When a new born baby visited our home , my mother would place in a matchbox , a match to be guided by the light , a small amount of salt in a homemade paper packet , being the salt of the earth , a small amount of sugar for joy , and a silver coin to help the new born on its journey. The God Spark . Electrolytes and Minerals , what happened to our fertile lands ?
I inadvertently picked up unsalted organiccpeanut butter at the grocery store. What a shock when I was getting ready to prepare a PBJ sandwich today! I scraped out the last little shears from the old jar instead. I guess I will be salting my future peanut butter sandwiches for a while 😣
Thank you for this article! I posed a question to Midwestern Doc that I hope he’ll see, but perhaps you can help me find an answer?
Where is the statement, “drastic salt reduction typically results in less than a 1% reduction in blood pressure” concluded from?
The Cochran study states, “…reduction in SBP/DBP in people with normal blood pressure was 1.1/0 mmHg (about 0.3%) , and in people with hypertension 5.7/2.9 mmHg (about 3%)”
The brain runs on salt. It's called Saltatory Conduction. Extracellular fluid is primarily salt water. The extracellular fluid in our brain expedites the transmission of electrical signals by the axons. This results in faster reaction time and speed of thought. Low salt levels may therefore explain the confusion observed in individuals with low salt levels.
Been putting sea salt in my water, always (not just in the morning), for the past 25+ years. All my panels are perfect, AND, my cholesterol is AWESOME! Read the book, "Your Body's Many Cries For Water" - a very __old__ book - you'll understand how it all works...
This is an interesting and one that potentially answers my own inquiry.
I have a daughter who suffers from epilepsy. The seizures follow a pattern in that they occur only once after her menstrual cycle ends. So it points to catamenial epilepsy. I’m trying to avoid medicine and exploring natural possibilities. Conducted a hair tissue sample on her and turns out her calcium/sodium ratio is extremely high. The other day she suffered from 4 seizures in one day! Never experienced this. Took her hospital. They did all the tests (which came out normal) but what I think helped her from getting a 5th seizure that day was the saline drip! My own research and observations seem to be pointing to this.
Question arises-how do we as a people begin to increase this in our diets? And is there anyone out there who may have experienced a link between sodium deficiency and seizures?

AMEN! I also discovered the lies and the truths of nutrition at an early adult age.

I would really appreciate your reply, thanks!
Trying to eat anything savory without salt is a horrible tasteless experience. Salt is essential for life and health!
I always thought the low/no salt thing was insane!

You're hilarious.
