I spent 7 years in military intelligence and it would make sense if he went there the night before to stow the weapon on the rooftop. He didn't go up the same way he came down that was quite a drop! I'm not too sure what he was thinking about disposing of the weapon in the woods. Perhaps he expected to go back at some point at night time and retrieve it. He didn't have a very good plan overall. But he did manage to achieve what he set out to do so who am I to criticize. I do know that he is a terrible shot though. I have shot at greater than those distances and hit targets that were the size of a quarter. I used Winchester 308 and he had a 30-06. For much of the distance the 30-06 has a ballistic advantage, but the 308 would have been a much better weapon for that range. There isn't much advantage with the heavier round and there is a disadvantage in that there's a longer action on the Mauser. Either way, if you was going for a chest or face he missed. The neck is a terrible Target. He was also slightly left, no pun intended, which indicates that he flinched a bit.
It actually would make sense to have help if you're going to do something like this. You start passing things off to different people and they start going in different directions and it confuses the evidence. Also, leaving confounding evidence is a very important aspect to this kind of operation that regular people wouldn't know about. The recovered rifle was a Mauser 30-06. It doesn't break down easy and even when it does it's still about 22 in Long and at that point in 20 pieces. It looks like what actually happened was that the victim had a titanium breastplate and the bullet missed the center of mass by 3 or 4 in and struck the edge of the plate which deflected a portion of the bullet up into the victim's neck and into the cranial cavity. It's a known issue with metal breast plates. You also get spalling even if the round is stopped. But I'd rather have spalling than a full bullet in me.
You can actually see the outline of the plate under the T-shirt. When the video of him getting killed is slowed down it becomes very evident that he had one.
I've seen the video of him coming off the roof but there's no rifle. At least at the resolution that we can see in the video there doesn't appear to be a rifle. In fact, none of the photos I've seen does he have a rifle like the one that they found in the woods.
I saw a video where the shooter was to the far right, barely in view. There were at least 2 others with him. It looks like what actually happened was that the victim had a titanium breastplate and the bullet missed the center of mass by 3 or 4 in and struck the edge of the plate which deflected a portion of the bullet up into the victim's neck and into the cranial cavity. It's a known issue with metal breast plates. You also get spalling even if the round is stopped. But I'd rather have spalling than a full bullet in me.
Peter ,in my youth I had a friend (military) who carried a break down rifle ,on his motor cycle , it was only 3 parts . with a wire stock .
The weapon found was a Mauser 30-06. This isn't that type of gun.

You can actually see the outline of the plate under the T-shirt. When the video of him getting killed is slowed down it becomes very evident that he had one.

I've seen the video of him coming off the roof but there's no rifle. At least at the resolution that we can see in the video there doesn't appear to be a rifle. In fact, none of the photos I've seen does he have a rifle like the one that they found in the woods.
Was he in sports? Knowing he could do the drop, because he’d done other similar drops?

I saw a video where the shooter was to the far right, barely in view. There were at least 2 others with him. As soon as the shot hit Charlie, the one young man, the one best seen, jumps up, excitedly, I think he says you hit him, but I could be mistaken. Then, he’s shouting, go.., go.., go!! (End of video)

Looks like the flag could be taped on his sweatshirt and that means he can rip it off to remove the ID. Probably ANTIFA underneath or something Left. Could there be another shooter inside the bldg., and this guy was a decoy with a plan? Did drone footage show him shooting?
I thought that the flag looked like it was taped on his shirt, also. Then, I thought again that it may have been writing above and below the flag. I saw your comment about it and went back and looked again. It does look like it could be tape, but not in one strip across the top. Kind of messy taping, if that, on top. Maybe we'll find out later?

It’s hard to see well for me, but it looks like there is writing under that flag picture in white. Top and bottom. Double sided tape or even duct tape would make a temporary decal to fit in with conservatives to avoid ID. There are lots of quick disguises, except for fingerprints. I hope the chain of custody is protected with all evidence.

He did not target the neck, Charlie was shot in the vest, and the bullet ricocheted in the neck.

I watched the video with the guy who signaled. He was behind Charlie, white cap, and exactly before the shooting, tapped his cap and pulled his right ear. Then, the shot, which showed Charlie's T-shirt being hit first.
