But when we Boomer grandparents try to explain this to our kids who are now parents, they scoff, ridicule and get angry at our interference. I think the generation born since 2020 is doomed. I actually think it's too late. The insects and birds are nearly gone. The old growth trees are gone. The moose and caribou are nearly gone. The skies are geoengineered into grey haze every day. There is no natural world for our grandkids to explore and appreciate even if they could after their brains are damaged by everything being done to us for our own good.
I’ve witnessed the tantrums and the way parents deal with this problem. I don’t think I had cable TV til I moved out and got a place with my girlfriend at 19. I did have a computer at home on my late teens with dial up. But it doesn’t shock me that they are discovering what the phones and tablets and the effects on the brain. The kids are all issued tablets in grade school through 12th grade. I think I can remember we had typing class in 7 th grade and I took auto cad in 9 th grade. I was using a computer at my job but it was a older CNC machine until I was able to talk my dad into buying a software program called MasterCam in early 2000’s that you could write the program and send it to the machine. The same thing with CMM coordinate measuring machine to get very accurate measurements and then save them to thumb drive and send them over to the company that I did the work for. I have seen 3 year olds that use the I phone and it’s like they have it pre program in DNA for the computer or videos and games. I had to put myself on a limit on how much time I was spending on the IPad and phone and laptop.

This research has been out for at least a decade. But MSM didn't want to or couldn't talk about it since Big Tech and Ed Tech had public education in their pockets.
Dr. Victoria Dunckley's book "Reset your child's brain" changed my life when my son was 2 yrs old. I was so impacted by her clinical research and experience, and her view that it is worse for someone to give a young child a smart device than to give that child a cigarette or drugs. She's right. My almost 13 yo son still doesn't have a smart phone nor hours of daily screen time.
I thoroughly enjoyed your article and will be sharing links to your post and Substack in an article I wrote, which will go live tomorrow morning, titled 70 Hours a Week on Screens? What My 6th Graders Taught Me About Children and Technology. I sincerely appreciate the time and care you put into your piece.
The best words from my childhood; "Go out and play".
Just look at the children and how they act when they're staring at a screen. It's clearly not good for their development.
But it makes parenting easier so the parents now have more time to stare at THEIR OWN phones.

Zuckerberg is currently in court for social media charges like this article discusses. This could also affect YouTube as well.
It’s not just kids, it’s adults too. I’ve been writing about this recently. Here are some pieces if anyone’s interested:

I see 6 mos old babies in the grocery store, staring at a video on a phone. Cringe every time. Parents don’t know the downside of devices.
