So I do support insurance companies' right to exclude coverage of people who refuse to wear them. Which, I suppose, can be called another slippery slope but at least there's actuaries to back up a business decision?
Common sense approach. Yes, I agree with that. There have been lives saved, without a doubt! A good thing. But I won’t say that it’s the insurance company’s altruistic motives. How do they determine who or who does not wear a seatbelt? Well, they don’t. Insurance companies lobbied to “persuade” citizens to wear seat belts. They succeeded. What I object to is the “mandate under penalty of law including fines” (there’s that most recent term - mandate). If I get stopped for NOT wearing a seatbelt, it could be reported to my insurance company who in turn could refuse further coverage or raise my rates. I think the mandate is where the buck stops.
