Actually all we know is that there are sometimes many trails, what we don't know for sure is why/how.

But the idea commercial flights have a "trail on/off" feature seems implausible, (we would know by now) and yet many of the trails appear to come from those flights .. so we need answers.

Personally I'd like to know more about the ever increasing use of "sustainable jet fuels" which have been introduced to reduce airline emissions, and are very different to the almost pure kerosense from the past. Modern fuels are pre-mixed with all manner of additives before aircraft are refuelled (ie. pilots cant be blamed and aren't in on any geoengineering efforts), so perhaps many of the trails are due to these fuels not disappearing as trails used to, simply because the compounds are different.
